Dwelling Place

Dwelling Place is an ongoing choreographic research that explores the possibilities of expression through the genre of urban fantasy. The project began during the studies at the London Contemporary Dance School, where the initial research focused on atmosphere, imagination, and narrative through movement. The research has, so far, resulted in two solo works, or episodes within the broader project. In both, the performer unexpectedly encounters a place that feels different from its surroundings, marked by mystery and an uncanny silence. Inspired by moments of unusual stillness within busy urban environments, the work engages with the urban fantasy genre, a genre that holds particular significance for the artist. The project continues to evolve through choreographic methods explored during the ChoreoLab program at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, including processes that step away from movement and reach for ideas or stories, and from ideas and stories back to movement.

Stošija Zrinski is a dancer, choreographer, actress, and multimedia artist from Zadar, based in London. She holds an MA in Contemporary Dance from London Contemporary Dance School and a BA in Fashion Design from the Faculty of Textile Technology at the University of Zagreb. She is the author of dance solos and group choreographies, including Travelogue, Dwelling Place, and 18 Degrees Below the Horizon. She has collaborated with theatres and organizations including Budilica Theatre, SAVVY Theatre, 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park, Coddiwomple Theatre, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, and Zadar Dance Ensemble. She also holds dance workshops for children and adults with various organizations in Croatia and the United Kingdom.

The performer, inspired by movements of resistance within the body, explores the sense of touch as the starting point and main driving force of her movement. She explores the question of how the body moves and what it produces when we know we are enough and when we are gentle with ourselves. How do we behave when we are grounded in our bodies and feel safe? Inspired by Deb Dana’s book, the performer takes the line: “I want to drift away but not lose myself.”

Andreja Lauš holds a bachelor’s degree in French Language and Literature and Art History from the University of Zadar. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in the Department of Art History, specializing in Conservation and Museum-Gallery Studies. For the past six years, she has danced at the Zadar Dance Ensemble studio under the guidance of Korina Oltran, Josipa Štulić, Nataša Kustura, and Sanja Petrovski. She also trained in modern ballet for two years at the Pirueta Dance Association, led by Vinka Zekić. She has attended numerous dance workshops, including several in Spain. She performed at Monoplay 2025 with a short solo and as part of the Split TASK project. She is an amateur painter and has held two solo exhibitions. She enjoys writing poetry and photography and is a great lover of film. Dance is her greatest passion, and she intends to continue developing her skills in the field.

Where is the Thing That’s Missing?

Where is the Thing That’s Missing? is a short miniature in which the performer creates her own ‘playroom’. Through imagination, she opens up spaces where wool can become hay, a scarf a dress, and boxes can become walls. The boundary between the real and the imagined becomes increasingly permeable, creating space for both children’s and adult play.

dancEUA – Contemporary Resilience: Reinventing Dance in Ukraine (2025-2027) is a European cooperation project dedicated to strengthening the Ukrainian contemporary dance scene through artistic residencies, professional training, the creation of new works, international exchange and touring. The project is coordinated by Studio Contemporary Dance Company (Croatia) in partnership with Central Europe Dance Theatre (Hungary), M Studio (Romania), Vitlycke – Centre for Performing Arts (Sweden) and UA Contemporary Dance Platform (Ukraine). Co-funded by the European Union through the Creative Europe program. The dancers who will present their short works on Monoplay festival are Daria Cristea, Julia Tytska, Lea Amneby Snickers, Nikita Sulko, Valeria Churai and Valeria Lysenkovska.

Am I in control?

The skateboard symbolizes the unstable ground between two opposing worlds: the physical and the digital. While my body struggles to maintain balance, the phone constantly redirects my attention, creating a tension between movement and distraction, autonomy and dependence. The solo explores the illusion of control and the fragile relationship between freedom and technological influence. It ultimately asks: am I truly in control, or am I simply adapting to systems that control me?

DORA

In this solo performance, Lea Amneby Snickars explores the relationship between movement and spoken language, investigating how identity and authenticity are constructed in front of an audience. Originally a 20-minute work, DORA has been reimagined as a shorter version for Monoplay Festival. Moving through different narratives and choreographic propositions, DORA playfully disrupts the audience’s perception of fiction, reality and performance, asking what it means to be authentic on stage.
